The Art of Procrastination

Some random thoughts about things I really like right now!

1. Tugs!

These are perfect for on the boat when you don't want to lose your sunglasses!

2.Vineyard Vines Tote
The pattern around the top is signs for the different places on Martha's Vineyard (one of my favorite places!)

3. Camelbak Water Bottle
This is great for the environment! I take mine everywhere with me, and it never leaks!

The End, The Beginning, and The Holidays

So as I sit here mulling over a paper that is due tomorrow (and is 40% of my grade...) I have been thinking a lot about what has been going on lately. I am currently finishing my third semester of college, and getting ready to go home for break. I can't wait to see everyone from home, and spend time doing what I love with those I love. Personally, I'm looking forward to skiing, shopping, and going on vacation to San Diego with the fam. I really want to get some warm weather while we are out on the west coast, and a tan would be nice too :). With lots of things planned, this means lots of packing. Honestly, I think just about my entire wardrobe will be coming home with me!

Christmas is also just around the corner, and I am proud to say that I have pretty much completed all of my shopping! Just a few more small gifts to go!

Now, back to that paper...

Starting break off on the wrong foot

So yesterday I came down with a nasty little stomach bug. I didn't feel well all morning but by the time the afternoon rolled around and I had gotten home and taken a nap, I thought I was on the mend. Apparently not. Last night when I went upstairs to go to bed I was in my bathroom and I got really dizzy... Then I passed out cold. Twice. The second time I fell to the floor and hit my face splitting my lip wide open and bruising my face. My parents heard me fall and rushed upstairs to found me unconscious on the floor. They quickly brought me to the hospital because I was severely dehydrated. At the hospital I passed out for a third time, meaning I got taken into the er right away! They did some tests and gave me fluids by iv for a few hours, which seemed to have done the trick, thank god. Not the way I planned on starting off my break!

Thanksgiving Break 2010

I can't wait to go home tomorrow afternoon for Thanksgiving. Here are some of my reasons:
1. Sleeping in my own bed (with my dogs and cat of course!)
2. Seeing all of my friends home from college (BM, a shopping trip is a must!!!)
3. Family - everyone comes to my house!
4. Sitting down and watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade while mom cooks the turkey... a priceless tradition from my childhood!
5. I get to put out and turn on the Christmas lights... I take pride in my light displays...
6. FOOD!

Happy Break in less than 24 hours!!!

I'm addicted to Apple. Seriously.

Really, I am. I have been a mac lover since the early iPod days - I'm talking middle school here people. Today, when I went on the apple website, I was greeted by an announcement saying that there would be something new released tomorrow at 10AM. I don't know about you, but I'm intrigued.... too bad I have class at 10 tomorrow

Zip Lining!!!

So for my birthday (in September) CR gave me a trip to go zip lining in New Hampshire, but due to our crazy schedules...ok, mostly my crazy schedule, we had to delay the trip until this past weekend.

The whole experience was amazing! I would recommend it to anyone. Maybe not those with a fear of edges (you won't make it off the first platform) but everyone else would be set!

I wasn't sure how it was all going to go before we went since I had never done this before and we were going on the more intense of the two courses that were available. Once I got there I didn't even think twice, and now I want to go again! - Such an awesome b'day present!

Seriously, you have to try this!

Since when is it almost the Holidays???

Ok, so apparently November 1st is the day when it becomes acceptable for online retailers to start the Christmas specials and countdowns. Honestly, I'm not sure that I am ok with this. The other day, eBay informed me that there were 53 days until Christmas, ebay... Stop that. I can't deal with that right now. I've barely even started to think about thanksgiving, and even that is an ominous date because I have so much work due between now and then. Good grief. Amazon informed me of the looming red and green giant as well. Apparently its time to start those lists and get shopping for the best deals... So the best I can say is, happy hunting!

The Boston Experience: Part 2

This weekend I was able to see two of my absolute favorite people, MEC and CC! The occasion was the Head of the Charles Regatta, an annual crew race held in Boston where the best teams from all over the country and the world come to compete. CC is on the UVM crew team so we all went into the race to cheer on her teammates who were rowing this weekend. The race is so much fun, it is full of college students from every school you can think of and there are vendors, teams and demonstrations everywhere! We had so much fun walking all over the 3 mile long race course, and we even met my mom and dad in there because they wanted to see the race as well!

We also discovered the Sperry tent, and being an avid sperry wearer, I was in love! They even had a photo booth and we decided to give it a shot!

Visits and Victories

This past weekend, I was able to head into Boston with some of my favorite people from home. We went all over the city thanks to a great Trolley ride from LB and MB's dad, and then had a great dinner at Dicks Last Resort in Faneuil Hall (complete with hats and insults...)!

Best of all, this weekend was the town election and BC, MEC and CC's dad won his election! Thanks to all of you who came out to vote and support him! A few of us even got to go to hear the official results read just minutes after the polls closed, it was so exciting!

This coming weekend is the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. CC will be coming down from UVM with her team, which means that I get to see her for the first time since August! Can't Wait! and MEC may be coming out from Holy Cross to watch as well, it is so nice that I can see her more this year since last year she was calling Chicago home :)

The Boston Experience: Part 1

This Saturday a bunch of us went into Boston. We took Mr. B's tour of the city amid all of the traffic that accompanied President Obama's visit and we had a lot of fun! After the tour we went to Dicks Last Resort in Faneuil Hall for a fun filled dinner complete with bibs and paper hats, not to mention the downright rude waiter who pulled the whole experience together!

Next weekend: The Head of the Charles Regatta!!!

Procrastination and Resolutions

So I am currently procrastinating doing my work for my three classes tomorrow, and I thought that a return to my poor neglected blogging account would be a great way to hold out on doing those assignments just a bit longer. I was talking to MK today and we were discussing twitter and facebook among other social media outlets, and I decided that I wanted to try to return to my habits from the summer of tweeting and blogging on a daily basis because it is a nice way to relax and stop thinking about school, work, and sports for a moment.

On that note, golf team is over for the fall season, we had our last tournament in New Hampshire this past weekend. The course was beautiful but terribly difficult. I'd love to have another shot at it one day... but now this means that I can regain some control over my weekends and have a bit more free time which is nice since I had 4 tournaments in 5 weekends this fall.

Also this weekend I was able to go home for a few days (thanks Stonehill for that extra day off btw...) and it was really nice to spend time with my family and my pets, I really miss them when I'm away at school. We played golf on the Vineyard for dad's birthday (belated present) and had a great time. I also spent a few hours this weekend standing on the side of the road in my town campaigning for BC (CC and MEC's dad) who is running for a town office. For those of you who know who I am talking about, get out there and vote this Saturday or get an absentee ballot!

One more day until the weekend, and I get to see many of my favorites from home on Saturday in Boston!

Big Plans

I have been doing a lot in terms of getting organized and making sure that I can get all that I want to accomplished during my years at Stonehill, specifically studying abroad and doing a SURE research program hopefully this summer. I am currently working on the topic that I want to research, and I think that it is somewhere along the lines of foreign aid - how much do countries give, does it do any good, and what kinds of aid actually work? SURE applications are due within the next two months or so, which means I really have to get working on this asap. For study abroad, I am also making lots of plans, and currently the plan is to study abroad in Scotland at the University of Glasgow, in the heart of golf country. I may even be able to play golf overseas as well!

Dad's Birthday

Last week was my dad's birthday, and we went into the Red Sox game to celebrate!

My Whirlwind of a Weekend

This weekend went by so fast, I feel like it never even happened! I was invited to attend a conference here at Stonehill that was held Friday through Sunday and was aimed at economics and public policy issues. The conference was based on libertarian ideas, which I found really interesting, and surprisingly close to my actual beliefs! I have apparently been misinformed about what "libertarian" really means for quite some time now.

Unfortunately I had to miss out on the last day of the conference because I had a golf tournament in New Hampshire (The UNH Invitational) but I did play decently so the day wasn't a complete waste!

I don't think that this week will slow down any for me either, Tuesday is Dad's birthday and we are going to the Red Sox game, and I have a number of assignments due this week as well. It always seems like I get super busy in the fall, and this year is not going to be an exception. Oh well, my Lilly Pulitzer Planner and my post-its will get me through it all in a state of complete organization, so I will be just fine.

Oh, and one more thing, just won a Lilly Pulitzer skirt on ebay for $16... SCORE!

Fall Semester Resolutions

After completing my first year of college I decided that there were a few things that I needed to change about my college routines. I also think that I should modify my ways because I recently turned the big 2-0... and although it is still somewhat beyond my comprehension, I am now in my 20's...

The biggest resolution of them all is to get work done earlier than the night before it is due. If I want to be involved on campus, do well in school and hold down a part time job, I am going to have to do a bit less procrastinating. With the help of my adorable Lilly Pulitzer planner and a few thousand post-its I think I am up to the task.

I want to be more careful about what I eat. I do have some food allergies that hinder my choices in the dining hall a bit, but this year I want to make sure that I am getting more of a variety of foods and keeping up with eating enough red meat so that I don't have issues with my iron levels like last year...

and last but not least... watch less TV. However, tonight is the premiere of Gossip Girl, so I may have to indulge just a little bit =)

Happy Monday!

A Hectic Two Weeks

Ok, I know I have not written a word in two weeks... life has just been to busy!

The first few weeks back at school means that I have to organize my life all over again, make sure my schedule of classes, clubs, golf team, and work while still finding time to focus on school all somehow fits together just right, and by the looks of it right now, I think I can call it a success!

The Stonehill Golf Team played in our first tournament today, and although we left a few shots out there, we did pretty well for the first tournament of the season.

I am currently being quite productive: today I have...
1) played in a golf tournament
2) done my laundry
3) finished all my homework for Monday
4) Started my homework for Tuesday
5) replied to about a dozen emails

now, I think it is time to read a bit more and then go to bed, I have another busy week ahead of me!

It Is Not Goodbye, Its See You Later...

As summer comes to a close, it has come time for everyone to return to their respective colleges all over the country, and I really don't like having to see everyone that "one last time" at the end of summer because it is just so depressing.

On a higher note, AR has already moved into our room and I can't wait to join her in our fabulous new digs!!!

I am currently in the middle of packing for college and I have just made it slightly more difficult for myself by buying a second pair of Jack Rogers. I was so in love with my first pair that I just had to splurge on a second!

I can't wait to see everyone when I move back!! Last day home tomorrow...

To all my fellow college students, happy packing!

School is Almost Here!

Ok, I will be the first to admit, I actually like the start of a new school year! It means new planners and notebooks (I'm a bit of an organization freak...) and now that I am in college I get to move into a new dorm room and decorate it all over again! Currently I am in the middle of packing for school and the absurd pile of pink and green is quickly growing into a mountain of college amazingness. I have a new pink shag rug for beside my bed, a lime green desk chair, pillows everywhere, and lots of boxes and bins to keep everything organized! I can't wait to post a picture of the new abode that I will be sharing with AR for the next year!!

The End of Summer?!?

I apologize for my recent blogging hiatus, I've just been insanely busy!!

A few things that I have done recently are:

Going to the Brooks and Dunn concert! (Yes, I am a country fan...) I went with MEC, CC, and RC to the Brooks and Dunn "Last Rodeo" Concert at the Comcast Center last Friday night. The legendary country duo is calling it quits after this tour so we wanted to make sure we were able to see them before the end. They have had so many hit songs, I couldn't believe how many of them I knew by heart! Sara Evans opened the show and she was amazing as well!

My "second job" came to an end this past Thursday, I can't believe six weeks went by so fast!! The little golfers (ages 4 to 14) were such great kids to work with! They worked so hard on their golf games all summer, hopefully I will be invited back to teach again next year!

I went to New Hampshire this past weekend to visit CR, we spent most of the day at the beach, which was really nice because I haven't been to the beach much this summer at all!

In a week and a half I will be moving back to Stonehill and into my new room with AR! Can't wait to decorate our new abode!!

Summer Nights

Every summer my friends and I love to have fires and play bocce on the court they built in their backyard. Last night was one of these nights! We had the puppies out with us and Joon wanted to play too! It was all we could do to keep her from stealing the balls in the middle of a game!

MEC and Benny

MEC and I playing bocce with Joon eager to join in!

Family Visits

This past week the California, Oregon, New Jersey and Pennsylvania contingents of my family came up to the Cape for a visit, and it was a nice little reunion! We all love spending time at "the pond" where two of my aunts live.
Sneakers (The Yellow Lab) didn't want to look at the camera...

Then we decided to do photos by generation:
I'm the baby of my generation!
The next generation (who are actually closer to my age.)
And then there is Bear. He is in charge of everything.

Adventures in NYC

Last weekend I went to NY to visit the roomie, AR and her family! On Saturday we had quite a marathon day running all over NYC from Soho to Little Italy and then all the way through Times Square to The Upper East Side and Central Park. We started our day in Times Square at the New Amsterdam Theater where we scored student rush tickets to the 8 PM show of Mary Poppins! We went and haggled in Chinatown, and made some successful purchases, then we traversed a few blocks and ate lunch in Little Italy at an adorable restaurant where we sat outside and watched everything that was going on on the street! After Little Italy we went back to Times Square and Grand Central Station to explore a bit more. I had to see the place where the opening scene of my favorite guilty pleasure, Gossip Girl, was shot! After Grand Central we took the subway to the Upper East Side (once again hello Gossip Girl...). We went to the Met but decided that we didn't have enough time to explore the huge museum properly so that is number one on the to do list for our next trip...
Then we went into Central Park to see the little sailboats and the Loeb Boathouse!
Central Park was so beautiful and absolutely packed with people! Who knew a city surrounded this beautiful piece of nature?!

Mary Poppins that night was incredible. The theater was gorgeous and the sets were utterly amazing!
Love the roomie and her family who hosted me for the weekend!!!

Hello New York!

I arrived on Long Island earlier today and was greeted by a adorable sign made by AR to greet me and ensure that I arrived at the correct house (haha). We spent today eating a pie (thats NY speak for what we Bostonians call pizza) going shopping, touring AR's home town, going to the beach, and eating Italian ice. We have had quite the day!

Currently we are planning our trip into NYC tomorrow for a jam packed day of touring, sightseeing and going to a broadway show (hopefully... I'll fill you in on that adventure later)

Here are a few of the places I think we are going to try to see:
Grand Central Station (opening scene of gossip girl anyone??)
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Times Square
The Loeb Boathouse
Central Park

And whatever else we may stumble upon during our travels!

Back to planning... Updates to come!

Mini Vacation to See The Roomie!!!

Tomorrow morning I will be driving down to Long Island to visit the roomie, AR, for the weekend! We have quite lofty plans that include the beach, shopping, and Broadway Shows! I am also excited to explore the city since the only thing I have seen in the city is Ground Zero. I should probably get around to packing at some point tonight, since I haven't done that yet!

NY here I come!

One Month and Two Days

In one month and two days I will be moving back to school, back to dorm life, and back to classes. I am excited for the return of constant entertainment, and the freedom of living on my own, but I'm not quite sure that I am ready for summer to end! This summer is definitely easier in terms of preparing to go back to school, far less shopping for dorm room supplies and no more worrying about if I had everything I would need. I'm actually all done with my dorm shopping for the summer already thanks to a trip to Target with BM!! Next on the summer to-do list is the annual Wrentham Outlets shopping trip with mom, every year we hit up Polo and J.Crew for the best sales for back to school (she's a college professor so she does the whole back to school thing too).

Any wardrobe suggestions?

Update: I have thought of one thing that I need to add to my shoe collection... A pair of Jack Rogers sandals!

Monday, July 26, 2010

I LOVE End of Summer Sales!

I peruse the J.Crew website on a regular basis to drool over the wardrobe additions that I want, but I REFUSE to pay full price because they always come way down within a few weeks. This dress has been catching my eye for months now, and I finally decided that I should buy it!

And better yet, I got it for half price including shipping!!

Maybe this dress will make the weekend trip to LI to visit AR if it arrives in time!!!

My Ultimate Wardrobe Staples

I will be the first to admit that I have fallen prey to most if not all of the stereotypical "preppy girl" wardrobe staples. I'm not saying that these items are a bad thing, obviously I couldn't dress myself without them at this point! But anyways... Here are my top 6:

6. Oxfords
I have them in all sorts of colors, some even have patterns on the underside of the collar (Rugby of course!) and they are great to dress up or dress down. I even wear them in the summer with a cute pair of shorts on those not too hot but not too cold days when I just can't seem to figure out what the proper outfit is.

5. Rugby Shirts
They do not necessarily have to be directly from Rugby by Ralph Lauren but a good rugby style shirt is perfect for the cooler days of the fall and throughout the winter, they always look cute (as long as they fit properly) and they are super comfy, which is always key when keeping warm is critical.

4. Uggs
Yes, I am completely guilty of being "one of those girls" who owns countless pairs of the fabulously warm sheepskin footwear. At last count I am the proud owner of 3 pair of boots, 2 pair of moccasins, and 2 pair of slippers that can be worn outside. I do realize that many people do not see this shoe style as particularly fashionable but I can't live without them. Winters in New England (especially when you ski as much as I did in high school) make them a necessity!

3. Sperrys
Sperry boat shoes have been around forever and I "discovered" them during my senior year of high school. The simple boat shoe is very comfortable as well as functional. Originally designed as a shoe that would not slip on the deck of a ship, they have become a popular shoe with non-boaters and boaters alike. My family does actually own a sailboat though so I am not just conforming to my admittedly preppy style of dress.

2. Longchamp LePliage
This bag made its first appearance at my private all girls high school when I was a sophomore, and it immediately caught my eye. It is really durable and the various sizes and colors allow for many choices to fit almost anyone's needs. I am also a fan of the simplicity of the whole thing, leather straps and a solid colored nylon bag. I am now the owner of far too many of these bags (I am guilty of buying my 6th one yesterday...) but they really do last forever and can be used with just about any outfit. They also hold more stuff than anyone should ever have in their purse anyways. I have been known to use one of my large bags as a purse, book bag, and laptop bag all at the same time. I'm telling you these bags are like a black hole!

1. Polo Shirts
If you have ever seen me, chances are I was wearing a polo shirt, popped collar and all. I spend the majority of my time at a golf course so this is my ultimate "go to" item!

Vineyard Adventures

I'm going to come straight out and say it; Martha's Vineyard is one of my absolute favorite places, EVER.

Sunday my parents and I trekked over to the Vineyard aboard the Woods Hole ferry. Once we arrived we decided that renting a Jeep sounded like a fantastic way to visit all of our favorite places on the island, and a really fun way to spend the day! We started out the day in Vineyard Haven, where we walked through some shops and had lunch at the famed Black Dog Tavern right on the waterfront. The owner's two black labs were even out front playing on the beach, talk about great advertising! They were so cute and friendly (and very wet from playing in the water...) And of course I had to purchase some Black Dog swag while I was there!

After Vineyard Haven, we went to Aquinnah, formerly known as Gay Head, to see the cliffs and the lighthouse. Below the cliffs is a nude beach, and unfortunately some people had taken part in the "nude" idea.... people who definately should not have!

From Aquinnah we went across the island to Edgartown and Chappaquiddick to see the Dyke Road Bridge where Ted Kennedy had his infamous accident that arguably kept him from being President of the United States. Edgartown is one of my favorite places on the island because it is just so pretty and perfect. The harbor is always full of amazing boats and I like the tiny ferry that runs between the town and the small island of Chappaquiddick (yeah its an island off the island...) because it only holds 3 cars and goes about 300 feet between the two docks.

Chappaquiddick is also home to one of the most beautiful beaches, It is on a reservation and It is completely untouched. No houses are allowed here, just dunes and sand... and really vicious horse flies.

From Edgartown we went to Oak Bluffs for dinner and to return the Jeep. Oak Bluffs is home to the "Gingerbread Houses" and the Flying Horses Carousel (Oldest one in the US). With a great dinner we were able to cap off our fun filled day on the Vineyard and get back on the ferry to return to the mainland. I definitely want to make sure I get back to the island before the summer ends though, I just love it there!

2010 Club Championship

This past weekend was the Olde Scotland Links Club Championship. I have played in this championship since I was about 12 years old and the title has always eluded me. Finally, this year I was able to play two steady rounds of good golf and capture the title.

I am also excited that Paula Creamer finally won a major championship, she really deserves it. And I have met her and she is the sweetest person ever.

Last night MEC and CC came over and we had our usual pizza and a movie night. Pizza from the Cape Cod Cafe was on the menu and the film of the evening was The Blind Side. SUCH A GOOD MOVIE! I love the mother, she is an absolute riot, no one messes with her!

Happy Monday!

July 4th Weekend!

I apologize for my recent blogging hiatus, I don't think I have even opened my laptop in over a week... poor thing, it must feel neglected!

Anyways, July 4th weekend was quite a success:

Saturday: BM and I went shopping at the Natick Colection. I got away with only a few small purchases from Gilly Hicks and Rugby (everything was on sale, I swear!!)

Sunday:For the first time in about 4 years I actually had the day off from work, allowing me to go to Mattapoisett to visit some family friends and their adorable 7 month old baby NC. She is such a happy baby!

She's too cute!!!

The night was spent at the Bridgewater fireworks which was a pleasantly impressive display!

The good news... its almost the weekend!!!

Sweet Summertime

I have just come to the realization that I only have about 2 more months of summer left. I'm not so sure how I feel about this... I still have so many things I want to do, and with work 6 days a week, very little time to do them!

Here is my list:
1. Go to Martha's Vineyard
2. Visit AR in NYC
3. Spend some time at the beach
4. See MK and JL!
5. Play lots and lots of golf!

Jury Duty

Today I spent approximately 4 hours sitting in the jury room at the Wareham District Court doing absolutely nothing. My services were deemed unnecessary and I was freed just in time for lunch. The most comical part of the whole thing was the juror video that we were shown in an effort to explain our role as a trial juror, the hostess of the video was quite comical.

The iPad was allowed in the courthouse after all, and I was able to do a decent amount of reading while I sat waiting. The lady beside me was not too helpful though, she was quite the conversationalist!

The good news: I'm off the hook for at least 3 more years!

Performing My Civic Duty

So a few months ago I received a nice little white card from the Office of The Jury Commissioner. I have jury duty. I am supposed to report tomorrow at 8:30 am, and I am slightly less than thrilled. I normally would be all for serving on a jury, but the timing of this lovely obligation is just a bit less than convenient. I am really hoping that they are going to allow me to bring my iPad into the jury room so that I can read my book, since I have already read about 400 of its approximately 800 pages. I simply don't want to have to start a new book! I'm not really sure of the rules on iPads, since the juror information on the state website is none too helpful, and the whole page looks like it was designed in the stone ages... They definitely have not kept up with the times!

Happy First Day of Summer!!

Relaxation

I am once again sitting at work on an absolutely gorgeous day, wishing I was outside. I'd even do yard work just to get into the sunshine. Pretty soon I will get my freedom for about 24 hours, and then it is back to work all over again. Basically, I'm going to make every second count. Lounging by the pool, playing golf, taking the puppies for a walk, and watching a movie all lie in my near future. I can't wait to be able to do absolutely nothing!

Last night BM gave her speech at Relay For Life, and she did an incredible job, many in the crowd were in tears. I video taped it, and hopefully I'll figure out how to put it up here for everyone to enjoy.

See You Next Season...

So last night the Celtics blew a decent lead, lost the game, and the championship. Oh well, Go Sox. I spent the evening watching the game with Grandma and her adorable 20-something year old (thats right... shes still going strong!) cat, Jessie. We thought that the Celtics had a chance down to the final seconds, but we ended up terribly disappointed :-(.

Tonight I will be walking a few laps at the Bridgewater/Lakeville/Middleboro Relay for Life. BM will once again be giving the survivor speech, and she undoubtedly will make us all cry again this year. Unfortunately I will be unable to stay over at the track all night this year due to the fact that I will be waking up for work as the sun comes up... silly golfers and their absurdly early tee times.

I can't wait for this weekend, its finally going to be warm out, and I need to work on my golf game and my tan... not necessarily at the same time though...the stark white feet look isn't exactly in style.

On another note, I scored a second job recently, which will aid in the replenishing of my bank account after quite the spurt of shopping sprees lately. What can I say, Rugby had a sale! ;-)
For the next six weeks or so I will be travelling to Rockland Golf Course and Harmon to teach the sport I am oh-so obsessed with to little cherubs in the 9 and under division. JG and CL will be teaching as well so it is sure to be an entertaining gig!

Thursday, June 17, 2010

Concerts etc.

The Lifehouse and Daughtry concert in Amherst was spectacular! The opening act was not too great, but that was made up for by the other two acts! The crowd was quite an eclectic mix, which just added to our amusement.

Tonight will be spent cheering on the Celtics with Grandma of course!! At 89 years young, she is quite the Boston sports fan! At the moment I am quite torn, watch the US Open, the Red Sox, or the Celtics pregame... such a conundrum.

GO CELTICS!

Family Visit!

This past week my lovely Aunt, Uncle and cousins came from Ohio for a visit! KFG is 12 and KJG is 9, and they are both so much fun! We traipsed all over Boston doing the "tourist thing" from Paul Revere's grave to Faneuil Hall and Boston Harbor, they saw much of what Boston has to offer! KFG's first order of business upon arriving on the east coast was putting her feet in the Atlantic Ocean for the first time ever. Quite a noble goal if you ask me. I also believe that we succeeded in transforming KJG into a Red Sox fan...

BM and I are heading off to Amherst MA tonight to go to a Lifehouse/Daughtry concert... we scored 5th row seats!!!

Happy Monday!

REUNION 2010

I just spent the past four days at Stonehill for REUNION 2010 and it was an awesome experience.

The first night was spent valet parking cars for the Presidents Dinner.
Highlight of Thursday night: Allison parking an SUV with a 150 lb bull mastiff in the back.

Friday was spent doing odd jobs around campus, making paper flowers for hours on end, checking in alumni as they arrived for reunion, and playing our newly invented game: guess the graduation year.

Saturday was the craziest day of all.... An alumni BBQ took up most of the day between setting it up and actually hosting it on the lawn behind Donahue... My job: face painting... I have no artistic skills whatsoever so I'm not really sure how successful I was at the whole thing but that's ok. Saturday night was the mixer, which was really fun... The pillar society alums are adorable and so much fun to dance with!

During the weekend AR and I stayed in the junior courts and got a taste of what life is like there... Such a change from O'Hara!

One more highlight from the weekend: AR and I chased a chipmunk through the halls of Villa in an attempt to get it out of the building... We succeeded but looked a bit foolish while doing it!

CONGRATS NDA GOLF!

So first and foremost I want to say a HUGE congratulations to my high school golf team, NDA won their 9th straight state title on Tuesday! You girls totally deserved it, you all worked so hard this season!! EO, CL and I were "tournament officials" this year, definitely a different perspective on the whole event!

On a different note: Today AR and I will be returning to Stonehill to work Reunion 2010! Not sure of our housing situation for the next four days, but the whole experience is sure to be a blast! Going back to school in the middle of summer... Count me in!!

More golf...

So The Country Club is definitely one of my favorite courses of all time, even though it was not an easy one! I can absolutely see how it was a perfect course for some of the biggest tournaments in the golf world, the Ryder Cup, US Open, and the US Amateur.

The only strange thing about TCC is their cell phone policy: you may only use your cellular device inside your vehicle with the windows up and the doors closed. Overkill? I think so.

My high school golf team is headed back to states to defend the 8 straight state championship run this week at River Bend.... Good luck!!!!!!! I'll be there as a spectator this year, such a strange feeling!

Graduations and Golf

Congratulations NDA class of 2010!

I got the opportunity over the last few days to be the alumni sponsor of one of the graduating seniors! To think that it has been a whole year since I donned the white graduation gown and recieved my medallion from CL is absolutely crazy!

I also got the opportunity to play The Country Club this coming week and I am beyond excited to pay what is arguably the most famous golf course in the country and one of the most elite clubs in the world! Now I just have to get my game in shape!!!

3 Years!

So just a really quick post today, but probably my favorite anniversary of all time.... BM has been cancer free for exactly 3 years today!!!!!!!!!

Summer 2010

So summer 2010 has officially begun! My first day home was the junior prom in my town and I got to see BM's younger sister (whom I cannot believe is actually old enough to be going to prom in the first place...) get dressed and take pictures with her date and friends before they boarded an absurdly large party bus and drove off to her first ever prom in her pink princess dress!

Saturday I was reunited with CC and MEC and we decided that if we wanted ice cream from the local farm stand then we would have to ride bikes the 3 or so miles each way to earn it! Let me just say that the ice cream was completely worth the workout!! We also stopped by the new girls softball fields on our way home, and we decided that we were born a few years too early... The fields are gorgeous!

Although I am thoroughly enjoying my return home, I do miss the Stonehill bubble! One great thing about being home is being able to see my puppies and my cat as much as I want though! And to make it even more of a bonding experience, I have been sleeping on the couch with Newman every night because he cannot go upstairs after his knee surgery (torn ACL and meniscus...poor boy!!) so we have spent some quality time together since I have been home.

Now I get to get back to playing some tournament golf, and I have my first tournament of the summer on Thursday, and I really need to get my game in shape! I can't wait to get back to being on the golf course every day!

Happy summer 2010!!!!!

Its Not Goodbye, Its See You Later!

So I have one more final to go, SM is all moved out of her half of the room, JL and MK have packed up and left, and campus is getting less crowded by the minute.

Goodbyes are not my favorite thing in the world, but I am looking at the end of the school year as a "see you later" and I am looking forward to seeing all my friends as they return home from colleges across the country.

Oh, College

So in these last few days of studying (2 finals down thank you very much!) and slowly tearing apart my home away from home, I have realized that I'm going to miss Stonehill over the summer.

Case and point: Where else can you get up at 4:40 AM (because you have to go to work) and while walking across campus to your car, see a guy wrapped in a comforter drunk dialing someone as he does the walk of shame across campus as the sun comes up?!?

The summer plans have already begun: beach days, trips to the Vineyard, aimlessly wandering around Boston, and days spent lounging by the pool have already started to take form. Of course the most important part of the beginning of summer is re-uniting with everyone (MEC, CC, BM, MO, LB, and LM!). MEC lands in Boston in just over 24 hours and I CAN'T WAIT!

Oh, by the way... Happy Mother's Day!

Let the studying begin...

Classes are over, 24 hour quiet hours are just a few short hours away, the meal plan is gone, and my crazy habit of making absurdly long study guides has begun. Ohhh finals, how I despise you.

Normally, I would think that the onset of finals would mean that I would go on a bit of a blogging hiatus, but I have a strange feeling that this site will become one of my favorite little distractions.

Happy Last Day of Classes Stonehill!!

Almost There

So I am sitting here on my computer, putting the final touches on my two papers that are due tomorrow....and tomorrow is the last day of classes. 3 classes and 5 finals stand between me and summer 2010, and I can't wait.

Today I indulged in a bit of retail therapy, but it was for a good cause. I bought a dress at j.crew that was normally priced at $118. I paid $39.99. I'm so proud of my shopping skills. I actually needed the dress for a few upcoming events anyways, and I can't pass up a deal.

Mine is pink.

Happy almost end of the school year!

The Packing Has Commenced!

I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad about this. I have begun to pack up my clothes so that they can be brought home for the summer.

One thing that I noticed as I piled clothes into my big green plastic bins is this: I have SO MANY CLOTHES! Seriously, After I packed 2 bins to the brim and a duffel bag that was big enough to use for a week in Florida, my closet still doesn't look like I did a thing.

There are 3 more days of classes and then finals start... and I still have so much work left to do.

Happy Monday!

Summer?

So apparently we have jumped right into summer. Today the thermometer hit 90 in my car and its May 2nd!

I have also reaffirmed my position saying that the one thing that is not fun about life in a dorm is the heat, it is over 90 in my room at the moment, and it does not seem to be improving despite my best efforts... time to go home for summer and bask in the wonders of A/C.

The last week of classes is here, and I cant believe that I have 2 finals at the end of this week. Its all ending so fast!

My Latest Splurge

So I did a bad thing this week. I splurged big time. I purchased my latest technological obsession, the Apple iPad.

This little gadget is quite incredible. It is a tablet with the capability to write papers, act as a book reader, screen HD movies, and just be plain amazing.

I had to get on a waiting list for this little device, as it was so popular after its recent release. Currently, my mom is on her way to get it at the Apple Store at Derby Street. I can't wait to get my hands on this thing... updates to come!!

UPDATE: This thing is amazing! It is really easy to read on, and downloading a book is really simple! The entire setup was a breeze, although I am still playing with the settings a bit. Now I have to put it aside and do homework.... this is going to be a great distraction!

O'Hara 220

I have been cleaning my room a bit today and I thought I would put up a few snapshots of the tiny room that I have called home since last August...

This is my absurdly bright colored side of the room, complete with a plethora of pillows to choose from. Can you tell I like pink and green?

My closet is a world of its own, full of bright colored polos (separated by color...), shoes, golf clubs, and one of my personal favorites (and a new addition) Hunter rain boots. These things save my life on a regular basis. Seriously, I waded into a swimming pool in them once!

Last but not least is my desk area, which is rarely clean...
At the moment it is not too bad, basically organized chaos, but what can I say? I have a lot of books and computer stuff!
(dont even bother opening the desk drawers, they may attack you!)

The End of a Beginning...

As I sit here in the library, attempting to write a research paper, I started thinking about the fact that this is the last major paper that I have to write for the remainder of my freshman year at Stonehill College. This fact scares me a bit.

I feel like I just moved in, bringing all of my pink and lime green college paraphernalia up two flights of stairs on what was quite possibly the rainiest college move-in day in history. Pretty soon, that same absurd amount of pink and lime green will be headed back down those stairs and into my mom's waiting SUV, headed back to the room that I have called my own for the past 17 years of my life.

In many ways I am ready to move home for summer, I'm ready for pool parties, playing with my rambunctious puppies, and seeing some of my favorite people, some of whom I have not seen since January (ahem... Mary Ellen, Megs, and Liv). At the same time I will miss all of my Stonehill "family" and hopefully I will get to take a few road trips to visit them before the next school year begins.

One down, three to go....
